About Our Site
Our Campus and Our Housing
George Mason University, a public institution in Virginia, was founded in 1972 and has since earned a reputation as an innovative, entrepreneurial institution. Our total enrollment in 2007 was over 30,000 students. Our 677 acre main campus, located in Fairfax, is about 15 miles outside of Washington, DC. About 4,800 students live on campus during this 2008-2009 academic school year.
Housing for Camps and Conferences
We host 35 to 50 over-night camps and conferences each summer in a variety of housing options. Our guests, from across the United States and abroad, have multiple missions that draw them to Mason. Sports and educational camps, leadership opportunities, professional seminars, area studies, scouting adventures, and college preparation courses are some of the venues.
Other Summer Residents
In 2008, we were the summer home for about 480 summer school students and 355 interns, students from other colleges and universities who are working or studying in the area. We also host visiting professors and new Mason staff.
